Halloween (Dia de Los Muertos)

Happy Halloween blog family!

It was a fantastic time this year, if I do say so myself. (Being 21 may have helped...)
This year my BFF Maria and I went as sugar skulls from Dia de Los Muertos.
We absolutely love the beautiful imagery, rich history, and fascinating cultural entities that come with this holiday.

Here's some more pictures of it as I love everything about that holiday and a few extra pictures could never hurt:

Maria and I tried to DIY as much of our costumes as we could, either buying things pre-made or adding things to our own articles ourselves as we both did not want to spend $80 on the Dia de Los Muertos costume. Another upside is that my graphic design professor went as a sugar skull for her Halloween themed wedding a few years ago and had all her left over accessories and make-up that we used! We were very lucky to have people to help us out in this situation.

I happened to have an old reject-homecoming dress that I bought at Goodwill a few years ago in my closet that needed a little revamping. Maria and I went to Hancock Fabrics and I bought about 6 yards of both black and red tulle as well as 3 yards of red lace, a half of a yard of sequins, and some fabric glue. In all it cost:

-Dress: $0 (on hand)
-Fabric glue: $3
-Tulle $8
-Sequins: $2
-Lace: $3
-Veil: $0 (on hand)
-Leggings: $0 (on hand)
-Shoes: $0 (on hand)
-Make-up: $0 (on hand)
Total: $16 for a one-time-only costume

Maria didn't have a dress so we went to Southridge. She decided to buy some clothes from the mall. The upside of this is that together all the pieces look "costume-y" but she can wear them separately in her everyday wardrobe: all in all an investment.

-Dress: $30
-Belt: $12
-Tights: $14
-Head band: $6
-Shoes: $0 (on hand)
-Make-up: $0 (on hand)
Total: $62 for a costume with reusable pieces

I think we both did pretty good trying to be frugal. It was a great Halloween and people even recognized who what we were!

So what were you for H'Ween little bloggers? :]

PS: Did you see Google today?
